Children’s tablets have been experimented with in the past. There are companies who specialise in electronics and devices for kids but with this tablet, Amazon have thrown their sizeable ecosystem behind it for free and added a no questions asked replacement guarantee making it a fabulous product for £119.
When it comes to children, you can never be too careful. Especially with the 3-11 age group Amazon had in mind for the Fire tablet. Although slim, light and very grown-up looking, the tablet comes with a carrying case that gives it the kind of look that will immediately put you at ease.
I got my 4-year-old to try out the tablet and he loved the bright blue cover that the tablet came with. There is also a bubblegum pink colour available.
The tablet has Gorilla Glass on the front and the foam corners on the case means the tablet will bounce rather than smash if it was to slip from between chocolate-coated fingers.
Internally, it is the same Fire HD tablet that sells for around £79 but what sets it apart is how Amazon have tailored it for children.
The best thing about the Kindle Fire HD for Kids is that it comes with some really robust features that give you incredible peace of mind when you hand it over to your child.
You can not only lock away internet and Youtube but also program the tablet so that kids have to read for an allocated length of time before they can watch videos or play games. You are also able to able to determine how long they can play games for. This feature has been absolutely fabulous in our household. When my son used the iPad, I would, from time to time forget that he was at the corner of the sofa, watching Toy Story for the 4485th time but no such luck for him with this one. He would just turn to me in bafflement when the tablet would just display a message to say his time with it was up for the day!
Also, I got the tablet to switch off every evening at 8pm and like clockwork it would! Overtime, it has also taught him that the tablet will just not work when it is close to bedtime!
You pay £119 for the tablet and that includes the bright bumper case and a years’ membership to Fire for Kids Unlimited, the all singing, all dancing ecosystem that Amazon have for children. From read-aloud books to apps, games, movies and popular TV series, it is all there and doesn't cost you a dime for a year.
Just hit play when connected to the internet or download content for when you are on the road. It is easy, it is quick and it is in a nutshell, absolutely great!
Although the Fire HD tablet costs £79, I didn't mind the extra £30 that got me not just a robust foam cover for the tablet but also a years’ worth of apps, games and videos from Amazon as well as a 2-year no-hassle return policy. If you are a parent, you will know exactly what this means. It means peace. £119 buys you peace, on the beach, at the supermarket, on the flight and even at home and if this doesn't make you go ‘take my money already’, then probably nothing else ever will.
At £119, the tablet offers solid value for money for frazzled parents who are looking for a tablet to act as a pacifier
