Vodafone Smart Platinum 7 wins the Best Value Phone (under £300) of the year

Mid-range phones are surely cheaper than those premium ones which cost in excess of £500, but a few among them have really caught the public's attention with unbelievable specs and features that have made them quite a bargain this year.

We threw open a number of brilliant mid-range phones before the public and let them decide which among them really stands out. Here are the results..

Winner: Vodafone Smart Platinum 7

Stunning looks, brilliant design, decent cameras and fingerprint sensor makes the Smart Platinum 7 a delight for mid-range phone buyers. The phone comes with an octa-core processor, enough storage, battery power and display surface area to allow buyers to enjoy the comforts of a decent phablet at a very low price point.

Honor 7

Honor 7 incorporates a full metal body, a fingerprint sensor, lovely cameras and a not-so-large high-quality display which can be used one-handed. The processor and RAM combo makes it a powerhouse and the 3,100 mAh battery is more than enough for your multimedia needs. The phone basically queers the pitch of premium phones which cost well in excess of £500.

Alcatel IDOL 3 (4.7)

As big as an iPhone 7, Alcatel's IDOL 3 offers the comforts of one-handed usage, vast storage space (internal and external), FM radio, decent cameras and a quad-core processor, letting you multi-task with ease for an entire day. Sure, the processor isn't VR capable nor is the display a Super AMOLED one, but if you're looking for a mid-range workhorse, the phone will suit you just fine.

Microsoft Lumia 650

The Lumia 650 makes it possible for Windows fans to use a Windows 10 Mobile phone without having to pay too much for it. It brings in Continuum, Cortana, Skype and Microsoft Office tools for productivity and combines then with a slim form factor and a good display to feature as among the most competitive mid-range phones around. However, not-so-good cameras, processor and battery may force buyers to look for better Android options.

Asus ZenFone 6

A 5.5-inch Full HD Super IPS+ display, 4GB of RAM, an octa-core processor and a 16-MP camera makes the ZenFone 3 a powerhouse of a performer at a low price point. To top up the brilliant specs, the phone packs in a fingerprint sensor, an integrated X9 LTE modem and  802.11ac MU-MIMO Wi-Fi connectivity.

Lenovo VIBE

Lenovo VIBE comes with a 5-inch HD display, a large battery, solid cameras and a 1.4 GHz processor to arrive as yet another decent phone in the mid-range space. The phone lacks anything unique in terms of looks or features but will let you multi-task or consume media on the go and its range of colour options will let you choose the one that suits you best. There are better options around in its price range but if you choose this one, you'll find it pretty handy for your everyday needs.
