Mobile Choice has named the Sony Xperia Z2 as the best camera phone of the year.
A high megapixel count, strong offering of manual controls and unique shooting modes, and waterproofing all helped the Z2 to come out on top.
But it was no walk in the park; one of the hardest-fought battles of the year saw tough competition from the Nokia Lumia 1020 and its enormous 41-megapixel sensor, plus the LG G3 with its laser-guided autofocus, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom’s optical lens.
This year also innovation from HTC with its unique Duo lens system to create blurred backgrounds, and the Galaxy S5 proved once again that Samsung can offer a stellar camera packed full of features.
But the Z2 was our favourite, thanks to its 20.7-megapixel sensor, Carl Zeiss lens, 4K video recording and physical shutter button, among other features. Our photography judge also praised the Z2’s waterproofing, which gives photographers peace of mind when trying to capture those tricky outdoor shots, and lets them be more creative with where they shoot.
