Palm announces new multimedia smartphone

12 September 2007

Palm has launched the new Palm Treo 500v smartphone exclusively to Vodafone customers.

Run on a Windows Mobile 6 standard platform, the 500v boasts a full QWERTY keyboard, a large high-res screen and a two-megapixel camera. Palm hopes that the Treo's design and functionality will help to bring the smartphone experience to a more consumer-based audience.
Indeed, the handset's 3G capabilities enable access to popular websites such as MySpace, YouTube and eBay, while its multi-messaging functionalitiy will allow instant messaging with Windows Live.

Palm has not forgotten its more business-centric smartphone roots though, as the Treo 500v includes mobile versions of familiar Microsoft applications such as Outlook and Office, meaning users can receive Word and Excel attachments.

Coming in either glacier white or charcoal grey, the Treo 500v will be available for free with Vodafone twelve-month contracts from 1 October.
Palm's new smartphone follows the launch of the Palm Treo 750 and Treo 680, which launched last year.
