Nokia 7373 Review

16 November 2007  |  Avg user rating:

Poor Excellent

Look and Feel

The Nokia 7373 is a compact swivel phone in a range of colours. Its unique design may not appeal to everyone, but the swivel action is sturdy and responsive, while a nudge will open the phone like a switchblade.

Features

A two megapixel camera sits alongside a built-in music player A2DP Bluetooth support for headphones and radio. Xpress audio messaging allows you to record and send voice messages, and a garment and shoe Size Converter application sets the Nokia 7373 apart from the crowd.

Ease of Use

Everything about the Nokia 7373 is easy to use, from the intuitive Symbian Series 40 OS to the simple, nicely spacious keypad. The camera and music player cause no problems.

Performance

The Nokia 7373 is competent in just about everything. The OS is great, photos are more than good enough for the casual snapper, and the music player lacks a little in bass but has a good equaliser for changing the settings.

Battery Life

The Nokia 7373 offers a talktime of 180 minutes, which doesn't really cut it. Standby time is a slightly more respectable 250 hours.

Nokia 7373

Pros: Its feature facelift is welcome and it remains expertly built
Cons: Its ostentatious pink coat and tribal markings may not be to every girl's taste.

The full Nokia 7373 Review

You can't accuse Nokia of holding back when it comes to its fashion phone collection. Back in 2004, its Art Deco range wove subtle but ornate red and black patterns. The follow-up L'Amour range was a trio of fancy phones bedecked in florals and gold. The Nokia 7373 is the latest L'Amour phone. Along with a new design motif, which takes tribal art as its inspiration, Nokia has given the phone a major feature refit.

Swivel phone

The Nokia 7373 is a very compact and clutch bag-friendly swivel phone that comes in three colours including a Powder Pink version. It has been painstakingly crafted with etched and embossed swirling decorative patterns and a faux-leather rear panel. The swivel action is sturdy and responsive, while just a nudge will open the phone like a switchblade.

Easy to use

Everything about the Nokia 7373 is easy to use, from the intuitive Symbian Series 40 OS to the simple, nicely spacious keypad.
Along with the cosmetic touches, the 7373 has an updated feature set. The camera has been hiked from 1.3 to two megapixels and stereo Bluetooth support has been added, along with a built-in music player and microSD card slot. The 7370 looked the part, but fell down on the feature side, so these tweaks bring the 7373 in line with current feature expectations.

Two-megapixel camera

A dedicated side key fires up the Nokia 7373's camera and it shoots in 1600x1200-pixel resolution. Picture quality is reasonable and, while we've seen better two-megapixel cameras, like the LG Shine, it's still more than good enough for the casual snapper.

Music player

The built-in music player is a solid performer, if lacking in volume and bass through the supplied headphones. It offers a seven-band equaliser (including two customisable settings) to enhance the audio and we recommend the Rock setting for the best results. The Nokia 7373 also supports the stereo Bluetooth A2DP profile for wireless streaming of music to compatible headphones and a built-in FM radio, should you get bored of listening to your music collection.

Audio messaging

Other quirky features include Xpress audio messaging, which allows you to record and send voice messages, plus a garment and shoe Size Converter application in case you're on a shopping spree abroad.
The 7373 has been given a much-needed feature rethink, and while its design may not be as subtle as other fashionistas, like the LG Chocolate or Shine handsets, it will definitely appeal to the frou-frou crowd.
