Samsung X830 Review

16 November 2007  |  Avg user rating:

Poor Excellent

Look and Feel

The Samsung X830 is tiny and narrow, with a circular iPod-style wheel, which means it has a small, narrow screen and an idiosyncratic keypad layout. The swivel motion is satisfying enough, but holding the phone upside down to open it feels odd.

Features

The Samsung X830 is chiefly a music player, so has a multi-format music player with bundled transfer software, and 1GB of storage - but no headphone jack. A 1.3-megapixel camera is also on board.

Ease of Use

User friendliness has been sacrificed for design on the Samsung X830. The keypad, with two numbers on each key, is hard to use, and the screen is tiny. The camera is inconveniently placed. However, music is easy to transfer and manage.

Performance

We would love to tell you ditch your nano and buy the Samsung X830, but there's not much else except music on offer. Photos are okay for picture messaging but not much else. The screen may be narrow, but it's vivid and clear.

Battery Life

The Samsung X830 offers just 180 minutes of talktime, which isn't really up to scratch, especially if you are using it as a dedicated music player and a phone.

Samsung X830

Pros: Impressively tiny, the phone still manages a big sound. A stylish and eye-catching fashion handset.
Cons: The keyboard is hard to conquer, and apart from the music, it's not feature-rich, as exemplified by the basic camera.

Verdict: The X830 is a great music player and a compact phone that will turn heads, but usability takes a hit in favour of style.
