Samsung E870 Review

16 November 2007  |  Avg user rating:

Poor Excellent

Look and Feel

The slim, feminine Samsung E870 has a matt finish that makes it reminiscent of an iPod, and a nice flip action adds to the attraction. But the lightweight phone feels slightly plasticky and none too robust.

Features

As a good mid-range phone, the Samsung E870 has the standard issue feature set: 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, expandable memory and a built-in digital music player. A great screen stands out from the crowd.

Ease of Use

The Samsung user interface is easy to get to grips with, and the E870's camera and music player don't pose any problems.

Performance

The Samsung E870's video recorder is the surprise star of the show, and footage has a nice flow with minimal interference. The camera is fine for picture messaging. The music player is a letdown, though, with a tinny sound that can only be tolerated for a short time.

Battery Life

The Samsung E870 offers 180 minutes of talktime. That's not very much, but should prove to be enough for a mid-range handset like this.

Samsung E870

Pros: Sports a stunning trademark Samsung screen and the video recording quality is very slick.

Cons: The build quality is very tenuous which is most unlike Samsung.

Verdict: A respectable mid-ranger that sadly lacks a certain je ne sais quoi to turn the ladies' heads.
