LG KF900 Prada ReviewRed starRed starRed starRed star White star

Poor Excellent

Look and feel

Like its predecessor, the KE850 Prada, LG's second Prada-branded handset is gloriously sleek, round-cornered and modern. It has a touch-screen front, complemented by a metallic slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Ease of use

The navigation menus are intuitive and the phone boasts one of the best touch-screens around. Typing emails are a breeze on the intelligently designed QWERTY, which keeps all the right keys and relegates the rest to secondary menus.

Features

Five-megapixel camera, video recording with secondary camera for video calls, and a comprehensive editing suite. But the lack of GPS makes this a mid-range device in a time where applications are all buzzing around location-based services. Though the KF900 has Wi-Fi and dual-band HSDPA connectivity, internet and email are patchy, and we wouldn't recommend this phone as a dedicated internet device.

Performance

LG's proprietary operating systems runs smoothly and lags were rare, though the phone faltered in the messaging menus when the text inbox was full. The camera produces incredibly crisp, clear shots in good lighting, while the video camera shoots in TV-quality. Slot in a 16GB memory card and this phone would make a good all-in-one gadget.

Battery life

The battery drained like it was going out of style when the phone went online. Even with only 2G use, talk-time wasn't more than a few hours.

The verdict

Lack of GPS is a deal-breaker for us, but LG has improved on the KE850 by jazzing up the OS, creating a near-perfect touch-screen and packing in some serious power for a fashion-phone that almost straddles the business market.

LG KF900 Prada

Pros: Excellent entertainment features in camera, video and editing suites; superb touch-screen; smooth user interface.
Cons: Patchy internet and email experience; lags in menu loading as memory is used up; lack of GPS prevents it from being a real ‘high-end’ device.

Verdict: The price tag puts the LG KF900 Prada in a bracket where it’s competing against handsets with far more functionality, but this phone has enough solid features to warrant a serious look.
