Poor Excellent

Look and feel

A striking, white handset with an impressive 3.2-inch touch-screen.

Ease of use

The Android operating system and subsequent applications are designed to make your life easier, and it doesn’t disappoint. Added touches such as three, customisable home screens help to keep all aspects of your life in order.

Features

The camera, video camera and the music player are somewhat disappointing, but the HTC Magic successfully builds on the other features seen in the G1.

Performance

A lack of zoom and flash lets the cameras down, but other Google elements such as Street View and the search bar were top notch. The touch-screen is also excellent to use.

Battery life

Battery life was good, especially considering the many ways in which to run it down.

Verdict

There are a few issues with the camera, but that aside, the HTC Magic is a thoroughly enjoyable phone to use; the best Android handset so far.

HTC Magic

Pros: The HTC Magic’s mapping abilities are top notch, with Street View drawing gasps of amazement.
Cons: The lack of flash and zoom add up to a hugely disappointing camera and video camera.
