The app store will house apps for WinMo 6.0, 6.1 and new kid 6.5
Good news, Windows Mobile peeps - Microsoft's long awaited app store, Windows Marketplace, swings open its door to developers on July 27, two months after registration started.
According to Engadget Mobile, despite earlier reports that it would have applications only for the upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5, Microsoft has announced that Marketplace will be available to handsets running WinMo 6.0 and 6.1 by year end.
Which isn't bad, considering that the recently completed WinMo 6.5 operating system will be available in autumn.
WinMo apps number in the thousands but without a dedicated marketplace along the lines of Apple's ridiculously successful App Store or the Android Market, it's pretty difficult for users to filter the wheat from the chaff. Some folks even end up downloading Tetris clones that don't even work on their touch-screens... No names.
