Train company to ban mobile phones

19 November 2008

Window film to block mobile signals

UK train outfit, C2C, which operates from Essex down to Liverpool St. and Fenchurch St. stations in London, has decided to coat the train windows of its designated ‘quiet' coaches with a special film that will block the signals to a mobile phone.

The company commented to the This Is London website that, "We know that most of our passengers like the idea of the quiet zone. However we are aware that there is a concern about enforcement of this policy on a day-to-day basis. Therefore, after consultation, we have agreed to this course of action."

A spokesman for London Travelwatch, the watchdog for public transport users, said, "We have had people who contact us after getting very annoyed that people in quiet zones continue to use their telephones. It is a welcome move there are plenty of other carriages if people want to use mobiles."
