T-Mobile unveils Google Android phone

T-Mobile, Google and HTC join forces to produce the G1 Android phone

T-Mobile customers will soon be able to get their hands on the much talked about G1 handset. The T-Mobile G1 will be the first phone to run on the open source mobile phone software platform Android, meaning customers will be able to customise their phone with various applications that best suit their needs. As with the Apple App Store, the Android Market will provide a host of unique applications from games to social networking to online shopping.

The internet is very much at the heart of the G1, with both HSDPA and Wi-Fi embedded. Should you find yourself using wandering out of a Wi-Fi hotspot, T-Mobile promises a seamless link between Wi-Fi and HSDPA networks. A full touch-screen and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard are also onboard the G1 with a dedicated search key that will take you straight to your Google search bar. Google Maps is obviously there, as is the ability to push your Gmail straight to your device. A three-megapixel camera has also been thrown in for good measure.

The T-Mobile G1 will be available for free on price plans from £40 a month including unlimited mobile internet browsing, with an on-sale date expected to be around November.
