Cyber-shot C905 to be the first Sony Ericsson device to come preloaded with local search service
Sony Ericsson has announced a new mapping application that can be downloaded onto their GPS enabled phones. Mobile Commerce's ‘NearMe' application allows users to search for local businesses, amenities, venues and events in relation to their current location. The service which is available to download for free to Sony Ericsson GPS enabled devices such as the C702 and W760 provides names, addresses and phone numbers for 11,000 recommended bars and restaurants as well as over 1.9 million businesses. Results are displayed alongside an optimised Multimap to show you how near you are to them.
In addition, users will also be able to view cinema, club and gig listings, including film reviews, costs and show times. Sony Ericsson promises that all information will be correct and kept constantly updated, while users will be able to save pre-stored favourites. While ‘NearMe' can be downloaded to Sony Ericsson GPS enabled handsets, the new 8.1-megapixel Cyber-shot C905 phone will be the first handset from the manufacturer to come preloaded with it on.
