Sony Ericsson’s YouTube phone

09 September 2008

Sony Ericsson G705 is first of many to have YouTube integrated on the device

Sony Ericsson has officially launched the G705, a slider handset with the internet at its very core. As well as HSDPA, the G705 also boasts Wi-Fi and Exchange ActiveSync allowing the user to check their emails direct from the handset. A shortcut key enables a Google search from an idle screen, and the G705 boasts built-in accelerometers that automatically switch the 2.4-inch screen into landscape view when turned on its side. Other features include a 3.2-megapixel camera, a 1GB memory card, built-in FM radio and A-GPS that works in tandem with Google Maps and Wayfinder, both of which are on board.

However, it's news of the partnership between Google and Sony Ericsson that has really got people talking. The partnership means YouTube will begin to be integrated in future Sony Ericsson models, with the first being that of the G705. Users will be able to download and upload videos straight from their phone to the YouTube site.

In addition, Orange will exclsively begin shipping the Sony Ericsson G705u. This is the first UMA phone from the manufacturer and basically means that users will be able to seamlessly roam between the mobile network and local area networks due to GSM/Wi-Fi dual capabilities.

The Sony Ericsson G705 and the G705u will both be available from early Q4, with the G705 coming in silky gold and majestic black and the G705u available in luminous black.
