Sony Ericsson: Xperia X1 will launch this year

Rumours suggesting the Windows-powered X1 uber-smartphone will launch in early 2009 are wide of the mark

Sony Ericsson fan boys chomping at the bit to get their grubby mitts on the powerful X1 smartie can now rest easy after the manufacturer put pay to the tittle-tattle that it wouldn't see the light of day until next year.

Mobile Choice ran the story here, but the company has released an official statement denying these rumours. Richard Dorman, Senior Marketing Manager UK & Ireland at Sony Ericsson says, "The X1 will, as previously communicated, will launch during the second half of 2008. Any other information is merely rumour and speculation."

Well you can't get a more definitive answer than that. Well, a specific launch date would be nice but at least we'll be seeing this flagship handset sometime between July and December.
