New, Xenium X800 touch-screen handset under development from Philips
Philips is working on a new touch screen mobile phone for release called the Xenium X800. It appears that Apple's iPhone has formed the impetus and inspiration for the new development as many of the X800's rumoured design facets and features resemble the popular Apple handset.
The reports stem from PC World in China, who says that the new Philips design will utilise an ‘e2e' or ‘edge-to-edge' design which describes a touch screen interface that takes full advantage of the available screen space. The design, which hopes to feature a QVGA resolution screen is bound to require a very powerful battery. Fortunately, the Philips Xenium phones are known for their long life battery performance so it is hoped that the battery requirements will not be too much of a problem.
According to the Justamp Blog, the new Philips handset may also include Wifi and an Internet browser. No release dates or possible distribution plans were mooted.
