Philips touch screen handset suffers from slow data transfer

More information has been revealed regarding the Philips Xenium X800 mobile phone. Probably the biggest news is one of disappointment as the new phone does not include 3G or Wifi. It does not even feature EDGE technology. That being the case, the Philips will be lacking in data transfer speed. Many observers now see the handset as being aimed at the Asian market only or, if not, as a low cost handset. As such, it will not be capable to competing with the top flight phones currently emerging onto the market.

There are plenty of useful features attached to the phone, however, including a 2.9in, touch screen with a 240 x 400 QVGA resolution plus an internal camera of 2MP complete with auto-focus. This tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 handset also includes WAP 2.0. the Xenium is able to play various types of music formats. As well as MP3, it can also support the higher quality WAV and AAC.

No UK release dates or price have been made available.
