Palm unveils the Treo Pro

Windows Mobile device sports a full QWERTY keyboard and a touch-screen

Palm's latest offering is packed with all the features one would expect from a business smartphone. Operating on Windows Mobile 6.1, the Palm Treo Pro is the first time the manufacturer has integrated both Wi-Fi and GPS into one of their devices, while the device not only sports a full QWERTY keyboard, but also a large vibrant touch-screen. Wi-Fi can be fired up by an instant hot key, with users able to rely on fast HSDPA speeds to browse the internet when outside of a Wi-Fi zone.

Palm is making a big song and dance about the fact that the box, which also happens to be recyclable, comes without an installation CD. Instead users need to simply plug the accompanying USB cable into the phone and then a PC with a working internet connection and through Windows Active Sync information, settings and files will be transferred to the device.

Palm has also for the first time included a 3.5mm headset port meaning you can use your own headphones should you wish, with the device also sporting a two-megapixel camera. The Palm Treo Pro comes with a 14-day trial for the Webraska GPS software, while users will be able to edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, along with opening and viewing PowerPoint, PDF and ZIP files. All this in a device that measures only 13.5mm thick.

The Palm Treo Pro is expected to be available on both Vodafone and O2 contracts later this month though an unlocked version will also be available.
