OpenMoko declare new Android mobile phone

07 November 2008

Company continues open policy after Neo FreeRunner

A new mobile phone based upon the Android system developed by Google has been declared by OpenMoko, which is already known for its association with another open system based on its own Neo FreeRunner handset. Rumours persist that the company is already well underway with the design that a forthcoming, final release should occur sometime next month.

Reports say that the phone will be based  on a 400MHz / 500MHz Samsung 2442B CPU. Apparently the phone will also incorporate WiFi to the standard mobile 802.11b/g standard for distant connections to the Internet along with Bluetooth for short range connection to accessories. That will be viewable via the accelerated 2.84in touchscreen that will span a 640 x 480 resolution, according to the Android Guys website. A microSD card slot is also featured to increase the capacity of the internal memory. Music fans will be pleased to learn that the chassis also features a 2.5mm headphone port.
