Orange starts selling DRM-free music

Customers will be able to play tracks on their mobile, PC, MP3 player or burn them to CD

Orange has announced that its customers will be able to have more freedom in how they listen to music they download from the operator. In the past, tracks downloaded from the Orange Music Store could only be played on a designated mobile and PC. By making their tracks Digital Rights Management (DRM)-free customers will be able to transfer their music to another PC, Mac or MP3 player while they will also be able to back up their music by burning it onto CD.

Orange has already secured DRM-free music downloads from Universal Music, EMI and a number of independent labels. With over 700,000 tracks currently available at a cost of 79p per track, Orange is promising that this catalogue will grow considerably in the coming months to include all two million tracks available through Orange Music Store.
