Orange TV, free on iPhone in UK?

26 March 2009

Orange France reacts to losing exclusivity contract - will UK follow?

As rumours of the next generation iPhone roam the internet and intensify, Orange France, which holds the exclusive contract to sell iPhones in France, is set to release a new TV service for all of its iPhone contract subscribers. Users on the Origami Star Plus plan who pay at least €42 per month will soon have the option of watching a choice of 20 TV channels for free.

The reason for the implementation of this new service is that Orange is losing its exclusivity position during April and, obviously, wishes to retain its existing customer base before its competitors step in, according to the Unwired website.

The same loss of exclusivity will occur to O2, in the UK. Reportedly, one of its forthcoming competitors for iPhone sales in this country will be Orange. There have yet to be any announcements but will Orange UK, therefore, import the TV service to our shores in an effort to steal away customers from O2? Oh, the irony.
