News From The East: Samsung's first Android 2.1 phone

08 February 2010

Design to be for home territory initially

One of the problems of Google's efficiency is that hardware manufacturers have been at pains to keep pace. Hence, the brisk emergence of the latest version of the Android operating system, version 2.1, has meant a juggling of new handset designs to meet the update specification. Samsung has finally met the new standards with a brand new phone that will be its very first Android 2.1 design (with the Galaxy i5700 Spica to follow).

Unfortunately, the new phone, which is to be called the Samsung SHW-M100S, is to be released within its home territory of South Korea only - at least for now. It is entirely possible that the phone might, eventually, make its way over to Europe in its default form or after a few modifications.

According to the Samsung Hub website, the new design features a 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED touch-screen with the very latest version of the TouchWiz user interface. Powered by an 800MHz CPU, the phone will include Wi-Fi, GPS, support for DivX, a five-megapixel camera, HD video recording, social networking service support and a headphone socket.
