Lenovo LePhone for European release?

08 January 2010

New Android phone from Chinese PC giant

It was surely only a matter of time for a major Chinese company to release a new mobile phone into the European market and Lenovo, which is one of the world's major PC producers, could be making splash with a new Android-based handset known as the LePhone ('Le' means Happiness in Chinese, by the way). Lenovo is not messing about with this one, either, because, looking down the feature list, it promises to give the Google Nexus One a run for its money.

Providing a 3.7in AMOLED touchscreen of WVGA resolution, the phone is powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor plus Wi-Fi for Internet connectivity, GPS for location finding, Bluetooth, a 3-megapixel camera and microSD support to increase the internal memory, according to the Mobile Crunch story.

Running on Android 2.1, the phone will feature a widget-based interface that, says observers, resembles Palm's WebOS.

Other features includes a touch sensitive area under the screen that can magnetically connect to peripherals such as the QWERTY keyboard pictured below.

We'll keep you in touch with further news on release dates and distribution.
