Company plans to become world number two by 2012
LG has been chatting to the Yonhap News Agency and revealing a range of plans and ambitions for the future. Ahn Seung-kwon, president for LG's mobile business, said that LG plans to launch a new series of phones under its Black Label range of handsets that will go head-to-head with Apple's iPhone.
In addition, he declared that the company is happy with the current Prada line of mobiles. In fact, he declared that LG is working on a new Prada phone right now, according to the Daily Mirror website.
Ahn Seung-kwon also talked about LG becoming the No.2 mobile phone maker in the world by 2012. Currently, LG is positioned at the No.3 spot largely due to keeping alert and jumping the queue while Motorola fell into trouble and Sony Ericsson appeared to lose its concentration. How the company intends to supplant either Samsung or Nokia, however, is difficult to imagine at this stage. Maybe LG hopes to do that by broadening its range. For example, Ahn Seung-kwon revealed that LG is working on a luxury phone range to compete with Nokia's Vertu line of phones.
