Google superphone good, but over-hyped?
CES in the heart (and heat) of Las Vegas saw the unveiling of the latest 'iPhone killer' in the shape of the Nexus One, a phone designed by Google, which is very much at its core (albeit it is actually manufactured by HTC). It's also the first device to run on the new and improved Android 2.1 platform. Although not reaching these shores until spring, we've cast our eye over what the general consensus is:
'If I were in the market for one right now, the Nexus One would definitely be on my short list of smartphones to choose from.'
PC WORLD
'It failed to live up to the hype.'
FOX NEWS
"The Nexus One is a serious challenge to the iPhone - particularly because this is version One of Nexus One while the iPhone has been out for years. It is the phone that Palm should have created."
HOLY KAW
'The Nexus One is at its core just another Android smartphone. It's a particularly good one, don't get us wrong - certainly up there with the best of its breed - but it's not in any way the Earth-shattering, paradigm-skewing device the media and community cheerleaders have built it up to be.'
ENGADGET
So it would appear that opinion is somewhat mixed. We'll reserve judgement until we get our hands on the phone itself, but we think on paper it certainly looks the business.
What about you? Will you be saving your pennies for the Nexus One's arrival, or steering a wide berth?
