Google Maps now feature a Street View

19 September 2008

New iteration of Google's Maps utility for use with Java-equipped mobile phones

Google has now upgraded its Maps utility to include a Street View which will help drivers get around a particular location but will be particularly useful for pedestrians.

Originally demoed on the company's Android operating system, the latest version of the software will be usable via Blackberry handsets with colour screens but other mobile phones that can utilise Java will also be able to exploit the new service. The only disappointment thus far is that the utility does not work with the Apple iPhone. This is possibly because the Android operating system is seen as a direct competitor to the iPhone.

The software has been available for demo before but this latest version is reportedly a lot more responsive. Data transfer speeds do demand that you have to wait, however. Reports say that it is simple to use, though.

The service can provide walking directions and also reviews of business, apparently.
