Camera phone photographer of the year revealed

13 December 2007

Simon Garn from Liverpool has been crowned Cameraphone Photographer of the Year 2007 with his image entitled 'No Waiting'.

Simon's stunning photograph was selected for its strong ‘composition' and ‘original' creative style by a judging panel comprising The Times Photo Editor Paul Saunders, The Times Creative Director, Tomaso Capuano, Heat magazine's Lucy Cave, Formula 1 commentator James Allen and extreme sports stars Charlotte Dutton and Joss Ash.
The Search encouraged people of all abilities to take pictures on their mobile phones on an array of subjects including adventure, fashion, news and sport. From the crowds queuing up to get their hands on Kate Moss' fashion collection to Lewis Hamilton's Formula 1 season.
Having won the Adventure category in The Search, Simon went head-to-head with two other category winners, armed with a new Sony Ericsson K850i to capture one final shot to clinch the winning title.
Running Simon close were finalists Nicolas Martina, with his image ‘1eme Jour a Lisboa' and Hollie Morgan's striking image of graffiti.
As well as scooping the Cameraphone Photographer of the Year title, Simon wins a round-the-world trip for two people to five countries.  Simon was also entered into Sony Ericsson's global cameraphone competition, World View.
