New clamshell handset, released as a successor to the E53

The new BenQ E55 clamshell mobile phone has been released as a successor to the E53. The new handset includes an array of features including 3G plus two built-in cameras. The first is a standard camera and is rated at 2MP. A second camera is positioned at the hinge of the clamshell and is aimed at video calls. Entertainment is provided by a music player that supports AAC, MP3, 3GP and MP4 media files.

 

The mobile supports a neat external screen spanning just 1in which supports 64k colours. The screen supports 96 x 64 pixels and will display information such as track data and battery status.

 

The large, internal screen spans a more healthy 2in TFT with 262k colours. Other features incude a FM radio and USB. Talk time is rated at 2.4 hours with standby time at 180 hours. No UK distribution or price information has yet been announced.
