New 3G, clamshell handset features larger display
BenQ is reportedly about to release a new handset called the E55. Apparently of a clamshell design, this stylish handset features tri-band GSM connectivity. For data transfer, the phone utilises both EDGE and GPS but also 2100MHz WCDMA/3G for faster data transfer speeds. A hands-free mobile phone, it also includes Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP.
According to Softpedia, one of the intruiging aspects of the mobile phones is the screen which does appear to be somewhat larger than the norm for this type of design with a projected size of either 2.4in or 2.6in. Resolution is reportedly QVGA 240 x 320.
Judging by the accompanying image, the handset also includes a small external screen and a camera of interdeterminate type. BenQ is based in Taiwan and generally concentrates its activity on manufacturing LCD displays, consumer electronics and notebooks. Although way back in 2006 BenQ purchased the mobile handset division of giant German conglomerate, Siemens.
No UK releases information or price was mooted.
