Instant translation capabilities to be introduced
Google has been very busy with a whole range of new and useful apps being released onto the market: Buzz, the linking app, Popular Images the multi-genre resource and Google Voice. Not content with merely releasing new apps, the company has decided to go ahead and increase the feature count within.
Google Goggles is the first in the chair. The app will soon feature an instant translation facility built within it. Basically, the app will turn your camera into an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) reader so that, any text that it sees will then be fed into Google translate for immediate translation.
This doesn’t mean that it will just translate newspapers lying flat on the table but posters or signs (ideal for holiday use). The company has yet to reveal a release date for the new app. Google Goggles can be found on the Android Market.
