Lenovo is expected to unveil the new Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus smartphones at Mobile World Congress next week but thanks to a careless electronics retailer in Spain, we now have several images and confirmed specifications of the larger handset in our hands.
Several images and specifications of Moto G5 Plus appeared recently on the website owned by Ktronics which were then promptly snapped and posted on Reddit by eager users. According to the inadvertent leak, the G5 Plus, which will cost slightly higher compared to the Moto G5, will feature a 5.2-inch Full HD display, a Snapdragon 625 processor, 2GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, a 3,000 mAh battery and a MicroSD slot which can accommodate up to 128GB of additional storage.
Weighing at 155g, the Moto G5 Plus will also be just 7.9mm thick, feature a scratchproof Gorilla Glass 3 screen and its nano-coating will ensure water resistance. The phone will run Google's latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS.
The G5 Plus will also feature a 12-MP rear camera with dual pixels and a 5-MP front facing one. However, the specifications do not match those leaked earlier by a Romanian electronics seller. The seller had stated that the G5 Plus will feature a a 5.5-inch Full HD display, 32GB of internal storage, 4GB of RAM, a 3,080 mAh battery and a Snapdragon 625 processor. Turns out that the choice of processor for the G5 Plus was the only thing that he got right.
Chinese social media site Weibo has churned up a freshly leaked photo of Motorola's highly anticipated Moto G5. Lenovo have sent out invites for the launch that is due to take place on Sunday, February 25 in Barcelona during the annual Mobile World Congress event.
The leaked picture shows the back of the phone with a plastic trim on the primarily metallic effect body. As you can see the photo is quite low-res so it is impossible to say if it is going to be a metal bodied number.
Lenovo Moto G4 Plus in-depth review
The camera module pictured looks very much like those on the Moto Z Play and Moto Z flagship that were launched in Berlin in late-2016
And if you zoom right into the leaked photo (like us), you will also be able to spot the dual-LED flash flanking the lens.
With just over two weeks to go, we cannot wait to find out more about this, sure to be, blockbuster handset!
Lenovo may host a Moto launch event at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 26 February and what we're hearing from the grapevine is that the company may launch Moto G5 and G5 Plus ahead of schedule as successors to the popular and cheap Moto G4 and G4 Plus.
While not much is known about the Moto G5 as of now, the Moto G5 Plus was leaked earlier this month and from the looks of it, it may turn out to be yet another low-cost phablet featuring decent specifications. What we know so far is that the G5 Plus may feature a 5.5-inch Full HD display, 32GB of internal storage, 4GB of RAM, a 3,080 mAh battery and a Snapdragon 625 processor. Compared to the G4 Plus, it features a slightly more powerful processor but the same display and battery specs.
Moto G4 and G4 Plus were unveiled in May of last year so it seems that Lenovo may launch their successors earlier than thought. While it isn't confirmed as yet that Lenovo will launch these new phones, what makes us so sure is that Lenovo has already ruled out developing a Moto smartwatch and the flagship Moto Z is only a few months old. Considering such facts, the Moto G5 and G5 Plus seem to be the most appropriate fits at the moment.
