While Apple's iPad Pro 12.9 won the Tablet of the Year award at Mobile Choice Consumer Awards last year, Apple hasn't been too aggressive on the iPad front as much as it has been with iPhones and the new AirPods. However, it is now clear that Apple is planning something big this year as far as iPads are concerned.
Wishing for a leaner iPad Air 2? The iPad Mini 4 could be it
According to industry analyst Ming-Chi Quo, Apple will launch three new iPads this year, two of which will be familiar with existing iPad Pros. These two will launch with 12.9-inch and 9.7-inch displays, same as existing iPad Pros and will feature Apple's A10X and A9 processors respectively, details of which are yet to be announced.
The third iPad will feature a 10 to 10.5-inch display, but its overall size could be similar to the 9.7-inch one given that it will be totally bezel-free which means that the display will cover the entirety of the iPad's face. This iPad will also feature Apple's A10X chip and could be marketed as a premium product.

Ming-Chi Quo's report did not make any mention of Apple's iPad Mini 4 or the iPad Air 3 which have been subjected to many rumours over the past year. In July of last year, Japanese tech-site Macotakara reported that the next iPad Mini 4 will feature several commonalities with the existing iPad Air 2 in terms of size and features. Being designed as a shrunken version of Apple's flagship iPad, the iPad Mini 4 is set to see its thickness reduced from 7.5mm to 6.1mm and will also contain a laminated display with antireflective coating. The new iPad will also borrow several features from the iPad Air 2 like a 8MP iSight camera, A8 processor and 802.11ac Wi-Fi connectivity.
Apple Insider also believes that the upcoming iPad Air 3, supposed to be launched along with the iPad Mini 4 and 12.9-inch iPad Pro, will be of the same size as the existing iPad Air 2, except that the new flagship tablet may feature a new A10X processor and several iOS 10 features.
