Usually, 1GB data packs are well-suited to those who have home broadband subscriptions and who do not stream music or movies much during their travels. A 1GB pack can easily support one's social media usage, limited browsing and conversations on chat platforms like WhatsApp or Messenger. If you are among those who do not need more than 1GB of mobile data each month, here are the best 1GB SIM-only deals being offered by mobile networks and virtual operators:
Sky Mobile is the newest entrant in the field and its unlimited minutes and texts offer sounds great but this is only available to existing Sky TV subscribers. If you are a non-Sky TV customer, you will need to pay an additional £10 to avail unlimited minutes and texts or you can use your minutes and texts on PAYG basis by paying 10p a minute and 10p per text.
BT Mobile currently doesn't have a 1GB SIM-only plan so we have included their 2GB plan which costs just £13, and ditto for Virgin Mobile. Virgin's £9 2GB offer is the best available right now but Three's current £11 deal comes close in the 1GB category as well, especially since it offers unlimited minutes and texts. Vodafone are presently offering a limited period 1GB deal whereby you will have to pay £7.50 for the first 6 months and £15 thereafter, which adds up to £11.25 a month over 12 months, not too different from what Three are offering. If you are a BT broadband subscriber, you will be able to avail BT's 1GB offer for just £8 instead of £13.
Tesco Mobile's £15 deal with 6GB of data, 3000 minutes and 5000 texts sounds like the best value for money deal among those being offered by other networks. giffgaff are offering 6GB data and 200 minutes at £18 a month and Sky Mobile are charging £20 for 5GB of data. If you are a non-Sky TV customer, you will need to pay an additional £10 to avail unlimited minutes and texts or you can use your minutes and texts on PAYG basis by paying 10p a minute and 10p per text.
Vodafone's 5GB offering with 500 minutes and unlimited texts is priced at £8.50 for the first 6 months and £17 for the remaining six months, which add up to just £12.75 a month over 12 months. It is a lot cheaper than Tesco Mobile's offer but comes with fewer minutes and no inclusive roaming.
Not many networks are presently offering 10GB data packs, instead choosing to market larger packs, which is why we have included a couple of 12GB offerings which are priced competitively. Vodafone are charging £11.50 for the first 6 months and £23 for the remaining six months, which adds up to £17.25 a month over 12 months for 10GB data and 500 minutes a month.
Tesco Mobile are offering 12GB a month with 5000 minutes and 3000 texts for £17.50 which is similar to that of Vodafone but comes with 2GB of additional data, thus becoming the most cost effective among existing plans in the range of 10GB.
Vodafone are offering as much as 20GB of data with unlimited minutes and texts for just £18.50 for the first six months and £37 for the remaining six months. This comes with 4GB of inclusive 4G roaming data along with unlimited inclusive roaming minutes and texts.
Three's current mega plan is a 30GB SIM-only deal with comes with 600 minutes and unlimited texts every month and costs just £18 a month. The deal allows the entire 30GB to be used as personal hotspot. The deal is eligible for Three's Feel at Home service and you will be able to use 12GB of data as inclusive roaming for as long as 60 days abroad.
