Samsung's Galaxy A3 and A5: IP68, metal body, Type-C and more

Samsung today launched 2017 editions of the 5.2-inch Galaxy A5 and 4.7-inch Galaxy A3 phones, bringing in metal bodies, improved cameras and IP68 water and dust resistance.

Samsung Galaxy A5 and A3 will be available to pre-order in the UK from 20th January.

Samsung's Galaxy A series phones for 2017 will continue to cater to mid-range phone buyers as hitherto but thanks to fresh competition and changing requirements of phone buyers, Samsung has introduced a number of new features in the series and has also launched the Galaxy A5 2017 and the Galaxy A3 2017 which will be available to pre-order in the UK from 20 January.

The best new feature to arrive with the A series for the new year is IP68 water and dust proof rating. Thanks to the rating, all Galaxy A series phones will be fairly waterproof and dust proof, letting you use them for longer than usual without worrying about your Galaxy A phone getting damaged. All Galaxy A-series phones will also feature Type-C charging ports which facilitate not only quick charging but also faster data transfers. Compared to previous Galaxy A series phones, the new ones will also feature larger storages and memory and their MicroSD slots will be able to support as much as 256GB of additional storage.

The new 5.2-inch Galaxy A5 2017 comes with a Full HD Super AMOLED display, a 1.9 GHz octa-core processor, Android 6.0.16 Marshmallow on board, 16-MP front and rear cameras, 32GB of internal storage, 3GB of RAM, NFC compatibility and a powerful 3,000 mAh battery. Compared to its predecessor, it features twice the storage, a much improved front cam, better RAM and improved processing power.

The Galaxy A3 2017 features a 4.7” HD Super AMOLED display, a 1.6 GHz Octa Core processor, Android 6.0.16 Marshmallow on board, 13-MP and 8-MP cameras, 16GB of storage, 2GB of RAM and a 2,350 mAh battery. The upgrades in it are at best incremental but there's no doubt that if it is priced the same as its predecessor, buyers will get a much better value for their money than last year. The IP68 rating, 3D glass back and metal body are valuable additions which add to the looks as well as performance.

“At Samsung, we are always trying to ensure our customers have the most advanced products on the market. The latest Galaxy A series is a testament to this. We integrated our unique approach to design as well as the features Galaxy customers have come to love to provide added performance without compromising on style,” said DJ Koh, President of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics.
