Had battery issues with your iPhone 6s? Apple is offering replacements!

Apple has launched a free battery replacement program for select iPhone 6s handsets which are suffering from unexpected shutdown.

Apple has also clarified that this is not a safety issue and that only some handsets manufactured between September and October 2015 are affected.

If your iPhone 6s is shutting down unexpectedly, you can check on Apple's website if your phone is eligible for a battery replacement which Apple is offering free of charge. To get the replacement done, you will either need to contact an Apple authorised service provider, the Apple Retail Store or Apple Technical support. Your phone will also be checked before it is accepted for battery replacement.

Apple's iPhone SE and iPhone 6s are the top selling phones in the UK

Apple is also asking users of iPhone 6s handsets to factory reset their phones and back up their data to iTunes or iCloud before submitting the handsets for battery replacements. Replacements may be offered only to affected iPhones which have been purchased in the UK and Apple will offer replacements for 3 years after the first retail sale of units. If your iPhone 6s suffered this issue earlier and you got it's battery replaced by bearing the cost yourself, you can now contact Apple about a refund provided you have the relevant bills with you.

Even though iPhone 6s wasn't considered as a major upgrade over the iPhone 6, the phone saw huge sales in the UK following it's global release. A report by Kantar Worldwide ComTech earlier this year stated that the iPhone 6s was second top-selling smartphone in the UK in the second quarter of 2016, beaten only by the new iPhone SE. Sales of Apple's iPhone SE and iPhone 6s stood at 9.2% and 9.1% of all smartphone sales in the period, pushing up Apple's share in the UK market to 37.2%, up from 34.1% in the first quarter.

In the United States, sales of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus have exceeded those of Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge as sales of both categories of phones took up 15.1% and 14.1% respectively of overall smartphone sales. Even though iPhone 6s and 6s Plus continue to be the top selling smartphones in China as well, Apple's overall share in the Chinese market has gone down from 19.7% in Q2 of last year to 17.9% in Q2 of this year.

With iPhone 6s enjoying sales beyond expectations, Apple's battery replacement offer is sure to attract millions of handsets which were manufactured between September and October of last year. If your iPhone is affected, do make your call today to ensure you don't have to wait for too long to get your chance.
