Sky Mobile launched today thanks to an agreement signed in 2015 between Sky and Telefonica, the parent company of O2. By introducing this service, Sky will now be able to compete directly with the likes of BT, Virgin Media and Talk Talk in Quad Play services like landline, broadband, TV and mobile. Here are top four features of the new mobile network which comes with great new deals both for existing Sky TV customers as well as others.
Sky Mobile is offering rolling data which means that even if you are unable to consume your monthly data allocation, it can roll over to the following month and to up to 3 years which means you will be able to use your data the way you want for long periods by withdrawing 1GB of data at a time.
This move ensures that you will be able to save some amount of your monthly data allowance for later use. If you favourite Netflix Original series is bringing in a whole new season in a few months, you will have the opportunity to free up enough data on a monthly basis to view new episodes while you're travelling or not close to your Wi-Fi network.
According to Sky, around 50% data goes unused every month on an average which adds up to a loss of £2 billion each year. Thanks to offers like Sky Mobile's Rolling plan, the average data loss per user will quickly go down in the coming days.
Sky Mobile is also offering you the flexibility to change your existing data, call and text package at any time of your choosing. This way, you won't be tied to a particular contract for long periods even if it doesn't suit you anymore. Sky Mobile isn't the first to offer such flexibility as Virgin Media has been doing the same for some time. The ability to change your contract ensures that a customer won't have to pay for what he's not using and will thus remain loyal to the network.
All three SIM-only deals being offered by Sky Mobile are priced for the data component only. Sky Mobile are offering a 1GB contract for just £10 a month, a 3GB contract for £15 a month and a 5GB one for £20 a month. If you're an existing Sky TV customer, you will be able to consume unlimited minutes and texts for free while using any of the three data offerings. As of now, there are 12 million Sky TV customers and Sky Mobile is looking at bagging around two-thirds of them thanks to this offer which will help customers save hundreds of pounds every year.
Subscribers to Sky Mobile will be able to keep recordings and personal playlists of their favourite shows on their mobile phones. Since these will be recorded shows, customers will be able to view them anytime and anywhere and will be able to update their lists from time to time.
