From what we know so far, the upcoming phone will be named the OnePlus 3T and will be more powerful than the existing OnePlus 3 flagship phone. It's pricing may cross the £350 mark thanks to several modifications which include the new Snapdragon 821 processor and a new LCD display instead of an AMOLED one.
OnePlus' upcoming OnePlus 3T to replace existing handsets
As for the Snapdragon 821, it is a successor of the Snapdragon 820 launched earlier this year and already powers Google's Pixel and Pixel XL handsets. In terms of performance, it features thrice as fast peak upload speeds and 33% faster peak download speeds compared to the Snapdragon 810 thanks to a X12 LTE modem that offers download speeds of up to 600 Mbps. At the same time, it also brings in 10% increase in performance over the Snapdragon 820 and the new Qualcomm® Hexagon™ 680 DSP facilitates improved performance and battery life. An exhaustive AnTuTu examination of Pixel or Pixel XL phones will reveal the real-life performance scores of the new processor. The DSP, says Qualcomm, is "capable of generating photorealistic graphics for console-quality gaming and next-generation virtual reality apps."

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 821 is, however, quite similar to the Snapdragon 820 in many respects. Like the latter, it runs the same Qualcomm® Kryo™ CPU and an Adreno™ 530 GPU but the latter has now been fine-tuned to offer 5% better graphics performance over the former. It also features 14-bit Qualcomm Spectra™ Image Signal Processor (ISP) which offers zero shutter lag in smartphone cameras and lets smartphones run cameras with up to 28-MP in resolution. The processor can also support up to 4K Ultra HD video capture @ 30FPS, a 4K Ultra HD display, up to 4W output power from amplifiers, HD Voice over 3G and VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling with LTE call continuity.
Qualcomm's Snapdragon 821 chip powers Google Pixel and Pixel XL: All you need to know about the chip
The fact that the Snapdragon 821 will feature in OnePlus 3T was first reported by GizmoChina who quoted a OnePlus insider to suggest that "the company plans to change the CPU inside, most likely use the newer and faster Snapdragon 821. Further, another reason for releasing a new model could be to shift from AMOLED to LCD panels, as AMOLED supply shortage seems to be one of the big reasons why OnePlus 3 is unable to keep up the production in tune to the demand." Subsequently, even Qualcomm confirmed that the Snapdragon 821 chip will be featuring in a new phone from OnePlus and has promised that it will release more information in this regard in the coming days. Do stay tuned.
