On a usual contract with Virgin Media, customers usually pay off their handsets over a 24-month period. But through the new Freestyle Trade Up programme, if you wish to get a new phone, you will be able to pay off the remaining amount on your existing handset contract using its remaining value.

To get this done, you will need to call up customer care who will calculate the existing value of your handset and will put it towards your handset loan. You will then receive a pre-paid jiffy bag which you will need to send back within 14 days along with your existing handset and the entire kit. After Virgin Media have received your old handset, they will refresh your Freestyle contract which will then run its course as usual. However, to Trade Up, you will need to sign up for another 24-month contract.
Freestyle Trade Up is an add-on programme to Virgin Media's Freestyle programme which was launched in November of 2014. Thanks to Freestyle, for the first time, Virgin Media’s customers in the UK could change their monthly airtime tariff plans based on their requirements. Freestyle contracts freed up monthly tariff plans from handset price which were financed at 0% APR for a period up to 24 months. This made Virgin Media the first telecom enterprise in the UK to allow airtime tariffs to be changed every 30 days.

This also ensured that at the end of the 24 month credit period, customers were required to shell out only the monthly tariff amounts. As an added incentive, Virgin Media cable customers were also required to pay £5 lesser than the contracted amount. As of now, Virgin Media's Freestyle contracts start from £8.50 a month and are available for over 90 phones including the iPhone 7.
“Virgin Media customers have the flexibility to get what they need and what they want from their mobile tariff as their circumstances change. Not only can our customers move up and down our mobile plans on a monthly basis to adapt to their changing usage, but they can now trade in their existing phone and get the latest handsets at incredible value. With much more coming from Virgin Media over the next few months - our mobile customers have lots to look forward to,” said Annie Brooks, Director of Mobile at Virgin Media.
