Vodafone Pay is an app which enables contactless transactions similar to what Apple Pay and Android Pay do. It is available as Vodafone Wallet app and is enabled through an NFC SIM supplied by Vodafone to customers who want to use the service. The contactless SIM and service works with over 100 Android phones but as of now iPhone users cannot use the service.
Today, Vodafone announced that along with Visa and MasterCard debit and credit cards, Vodafone Pay users can now make contactless payments using their PayPal accounts as well. The maximum limit of such transactions is £30 and can be used in over 400,000 retail outlets in the UK, on the Transport for London (TfL) network and National Rail services in and around London.
“Our customers told us that being able to use PayPal when making mobile payments was important to them so we’re delighted to now offer this on Vodafone Pay. The service also works with any Visa and MasterCard credit or debit card offering customers greater choice than any other mobile payment service,” said Kate Wright, Head of Consumer Services at Vodafone UK.
If you have a Vodafone Wallet app in your phone, you can store all your credit and debit card information in it along with details of your PayPal account. Vodafone Pay is part of the Wallet app and once you place your phone near a NFC terminal, the payment will be transferred from the account you wish to pay from. What's brilliant about Vodafone Pay is that it works even if your phone is switched off. As per Vodafone, this is because 'contactless SIM can contact automatically to the contactless terminal to make the transaction.'
You can use the Vodafone Pay service if you're on a two-year contract with the network and also if you're a pre-pay customer. On the Vodafone app, you will be able to view transaction history, details pf purchases, place and date of transactions as well as pending transactions whenever you like.
