IFA 2016: ASUS launches ZenBook 3, ZenWatch 3 and Transformer 3 laptabs but no ZenPhones this time

ASUS launched its latest wares including a laptop, a new smartwatch, laptop-tablets and a portable monitor at IFA in Berlin today.

ASUS' IFA launch showcases the company's quest to compete in the convertible tablet and smartwatch markets.

At its ZenVolution event which concluded this afternoon, ASUS unveiled its new ZenBook 3, a 11.9mm thick laptop featuring the latest Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, up to 1TB of internal storage, a quad speaker audio system and USB Type-C port for quick charging and data transfers.

ZenBook 3 comes with a 12.5-inch edge-to-edge display which is sheathed by a Gorilla Glass 4 screen and its body is made from aerospace-grade aluminium alloy which, apart from being strong, keeps the laptop's weight at under 1kg. The laptop boasts an 82% screen to body ratio, a 50% stronger body than standard laptops, an advanced cooling system and the world’s thinnest fan design.

The Keyboard in ZenBook 3 is completely backlit and rests alongside a glass-covered Precision Touchpad which is embedded with palm-rejection technology, Smart Gestures, handwriting support and fingerprint reader with Windows Hello support.

The new ASUS Transformer 3 laptop-tablet features a 12.6-inch display with a resolution of 2,880 x 1,920 pixels and which covers 80% of the tablet's body. The tablet also features ASUS Tru2Life video-enhancement technology for an enhanced visual experience and a quad-speaker audio system developed in collaboration with audio experts Harmon Kardon to offer immersive sound even when the volume is turned high.

Specification wise, Transformer 3 houses a 7th Gen Intel Core processor, 512 GB of internal storage, 8GB of RAM, a reversible USB-C connector and Thunderbolt 3 which supports data transfers at speeds of up to 40Gbps. There's also a 13-MP rear camera, a built-in fingerprint reader with Windows Hello support and if you wish, you can buy accessories to go with the laptop like ASUS Pen, ASUS Universal Dock, ASUS Audio Pod, and ROG XG Station 2.

The Transformer 3 Pro is an advanced and more powerful variant of the Transformer 3 and despite being just 8.35mm thin, is made from crafted aluminium which adds a lot of durability to the device. In the Transformer 3 Pro, you'll find a 12.6-inch 3K display with a resolution of 2,880 x 1,920 pixels, a 7th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, 1TB of internal storage, 16GB of RAM, a USB Type-C connector, Thunderbolt 3 which supports data transfers at speeds of up to 40Gbps and additional USB 3.0 and HDMI ports. Unlike the Transformer 3, it also contains a front camera for video calls and selfies along with a 13-MP rear cam.

Transformer 3 Pro will ship with a backlit Transformer Cover Keyboard in a choice of Stone, Charcoal, Taupe and Amber colours. The tablet will be compatible with a range of branded accessories like ASUS Pen, ASUS Universal Dock, ASUS Audio Pod, and ROG XG Station 2 which you can buy separately.

ASUS also launched the new ZenWatch 3, its latest Android Wear smartwatch featuring, unlike its predecessors, a circular 1.39-inch AMOLED display with a diameter of 45mm. The smartwatch is powered by a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ Wear 2100 chip which is the first Qualcomm processor crafted specifically for wearables.

The ZenWatch 3 features 4GB of internal storage, 512MB of RAM, a 340 mAh battery as well as Google Now support which will let you communicate with the watch via voice commands. ASUS have been the most talkative about the ZenWatch 3's battery which can last two whole days on a single charge thanks to special battery saving features. The watch can also be charged upto 60 percent in 15 minutes and you will be able to buy a battery pack separately if you need one.

ZenWatch 3 will ship in three colour variants- Gunmetal, Silver, and Rose Gold whose premium looks will be further accentuated by jewellery-grade 316L stainless steel which ensures wear and tear isn't readily visible on the watch. The watch also houses three crown buttons on its side to let you access apps and programmes and also comes with as many as 50 watch faces apart from those featured in Android Wear.
