Big Tablets face off: Huawei MateBook vs Microsoft Surface Pro 4 vs Apple iPad Pro

You will need to pay £749 for a MateBook featuring Intel's 6th Gen M3 processor and £999 for the one featuring Intel's M5 processor. The pricing isn't too high considering Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 is available starting at £749 and Apple's 12.9-inch iPad Pro at £679. However, the MateBook is considerably lighter at 640g compared to Microsoft Surface Pro 4 which weighs at 766g and Apple's iPad Pro which weighs at 713g.

Running Windows 10 OS, Huawei MateBook will be available in two storage & RAM variants, one with 128GB of storage and 4GB of RAM and the other with 256GB of storage and 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM. It features a front-facing 5-megapixel camera to let you make video calls or take selfies and dual Dolby Audio speakers to give you a seamless audio experience. The battery has a capacity of 4,430 mAh, can be charged in just 2.5 hours and as per Huawei, will offer up to a full day of usage.

The MateBook's exterior is made of high spec aluminium to protect it from daily wear and tear and the leather keyboard makes quiet typing and swiping easier for users. What should interest you more is that the MateBook is just 6.9mm thin which is considered a feat even for smartphones. However, this spec is matched by the 12.9-inch iPad pro, despite the device being heavier.

In terms of security, you'll have Microsoft's Windows Defender on-board but the MateBook also comes with a fingerprint recognition system to let you access your files privately and unlock the device with a single touch as well. With productivity features available in Windows 10, the MateBook might encounter tough competition from Microsoft's own Surface Pro 4 as well as Samsung's Galaxy Tab Pro S which also runs the same operating system.

If you'd like a quick glimpse of how the MateBook looks and feel like and how it is like to work on, you can view the short hands-on video that our Editor recorded at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. "A very stylish device available with a host of accessories that's bound to get more than a look-in from business users, the MateBook is available with a range of internal memory options with reflective pricing to suit, not just business users but also students," she said.

If you like what you see, you should also know that the MateBook brings in a keyboard for free in-the-box unlike Apple's iPad Pro. However, the MatePen with 2,048 levels of sensitivity will be available separately. You can purchase the device along with related accessories at Curry’s Stratford, Oxford Street, Aberdeen 2in1-HS, Cardiff, Canary Wharf, Manchester Arndale, Bluewater, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Bath, Brighton, Manchester Trafford, Edinburgh Princes Street and Tottenham Court Road.
