The ASUS ZenWatch line of smartwatches runs Android Wear OS and since the latest update to the operating system makes it optimised for circular displays, it doesn't really surprise us that ASUS has opted for one. The fact was discovered when Ausdroid came across a recent FCC filing by ASUS which carried a diagram of the upcoming smartwatch. The diagram revealed a circular rear panel apart from other features lie a stainless steel body, Bluetooth 4.2 compatibility and a 5V 2 amp charger.
Since the FCC filing didn't reveal much, what we are sure of is that ZenWatch 3 will at least arrive with new features supported by Android Wear 2.0 like the updated Google Fit fitness monitoring app, the ability to run apps like Google Calendar, WhatsApp messenger, Evernote, Shazam, TripAdvisor and WeChat among others and compatibility with iPhones running iOS 8.2 or later versions.
With Samsung expected to launch the Gear S3 smartwatch at IFA and even Google reportedly launching two new Android Wear smartwatches during the event, ASUS ZenWatch 3 will have to be really good-looking and pack a large number of features and functionality to outshine its competitors. Apple is also expected to launch the Apple Watch 2 during the iPhone launch event on September 16 so happily for customers, September will see the launch of a number of premium smartwatches with varying design specs, pricing ranges and specifications.
