Speaking to Gadgets 360 during his ongoing trip to India, Pei believed that while OnePlus X and OnePlus 2 received some criticism from fans, the OnePlus 3 has been accepted by the community as a capable flagship killer. OnePlus 3 was developed with the help of feedback from fans and brought in new features to counter the criticism that OnePlus 2 faced, especially the lack of NFC.
OnePlus 3 to cost £329 from July 11; OnePlus blame Brexit
"So we look a lot at the feedbacks which users give us, and even on our phone box it says created together with our fans. We have a lot of questions on our forums from users and we take a lot of them in," he said. "Our users definitely think that the OnePlus 3 is better than the OnePlus 2," he added.
Pei also said that OnePlus 2 did not feature NFC as contactless payments weren't as prevelant when the phone was launched as they are today. Given that Android Pay is now active in the UK, OnePlus 3's NFC capability will let users make contactless payments with ease. OnePlus 3 also brings in Dash charger which does not heat up the phone and offers longer shelf life to the phone compared to other chargers.
Thinking of getting a OnePlus 3? We would hold out a bit longer..
As for the OnePlus X, Pei said that there won't be a successor and the phoone didn't do too well because its price matched those of other branded phones. "There are so many companies who make cheap phones. We were never a brand that competed with other handset manufacturers on pricing," he said.
Looking very much like an Apple iPhone 5 or iPhone 5S, OnePlus X arrived with a 5-inch display and its frame had a metal lining on the outside that carried the volume button, power button, charging slot, twin-speaker outlets at the bottom and a microSD card slot. The phone featured a Gorilla Glass 3 screen, a Snapdragon 801 chip, 3GB RAM, 16GB storage, 13MP and 8MP cameras and a 2,525mAH battery. It was priced at £199 and wasn't as competitively priced as the OnePlus 2 which cost lass than a £100 more.
While OnePlus 3 is doing well in several regions thanks to its impressive array of specifications and cheap price points, Pei said that the company will launch a Soft Gold variant of OnePlus 3 soon. Whether the variant will cost as much as existing variants of OnePlus 3 is something he didn't talk about.
