LG V10 successor being prepped, suggest rumours

LG may launch a successor to the much-acclaimed V10 come September, say rumours following reports that the company couldn't ship as many G5 handsets as it expected.

The launch of LG V20 might coincide with the launch of Apple's iPhone 7 and 7 Plus in September.

While the G5, despite being a capable handset featuring the latest specifications, didn't sell as well as LG expected, the company is betting on a follow-on device to the V10, a well-priced phablet featuring the best of features and which received favourable reviews from tech observers and customers alike when it was launched last year.

South Korea's Electronic Times has reported that there is a high chance of the new phone being named the V20 and LG plans to launch it to compete effectively in the smartphone market in the latter half of the year. While the V10 was launched in October of last year, the V20 may launch in September to coincide with the launch of iPhone 7 Plus.

“It has become important for Smartphone manufacturers to put out more new models as markets for Smartphones are now based on competition for speed. Unlike Apple that receives parts from outside companies, Samsung and LG have advantages in adjusting their release dates since their affiliates take care of manufacturing processes,” said Professor Chang Seok-kwon of Hanyang University to the Electronic Times.

This is the first time that anybody has talked about the V20 and as of now, new features or specifications of the V20 are not available. However, like most premium devices launched this year, we are assuming that it will feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM or higher and a Quad HD display and may launch with some modular accessories like the G5. Given that the phone may launch around the same time as Google's upcoming Nexus phones, there's a chance that the phone might run the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS instead of Marshmallow.

Launched in October of last year, the V10 was a truly revolutionary phone. It arrived with impressive features and specifications like  two front facing wide-angle cameras of 80 and 120 degrees each, an always-on second display, 32 bit Hi-Fi DAC high definition audio quality,  a removable 3,000 mAh battery, a microSD card slot, a fingerprint sensor, a 5.7-inch Quad HD IPS display, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
