OnePlus 3 to cost £329 from July 11; OnePlus blame Brexit

Pricing of the much-lauded OnePlus 3 will increase by £20 from July 11, says OnePlus.

The announcement takes place less than a week after OnePlus warned that it might be forced to hike prices following the fall of the pound to a 30-year low.

Starting July 11, you will be able to buy a OnePlus 3 for £329, but if you buy one before the date, you will need to pay just £309. The price hike isn't unexpected given that OnePlus had warned about it a week ago. “The UK is one of the most important markets for OnePlus. So given the uncertainty following the unexpected Brexit developments, we wanted to explain how this might affect our business in the near future," OnePlus had said to the Daily Star Online.

“We’ve always strived to create the best product and deliver them to customers at a reasonable price. However, the worrying downward trend of the GBP may make it difficult to maintain our current pricing structure in the UK. Our margins have always been thin, and our expenses are mainly in USD. This being the case, sudden drops such as the one that the Pound has recently experienced could have a direct impact on our prices," it added.

Falling pound to push up smartphone prices?

In its official blog site, OnePlus today said that they tried to hold off the price hike for a long time, but the unexpected drop in the value of the pound compared to USD forced their hand. 'Given the effects of the unstable markets on our extremely thin margins, we’re reluctantly going to have make some small changes to our pricing structure for the device. In practical terms for our customers, this means that from July 11, 2016 (that’s next Monday), the OnePlus 3 will be £329 in the UK,' the company added.

For those who want to buy the OnePlus 3 at its current price, you have time till Monday. However, pricing of accessories will not change and will stay the same until OnePlus makes another announcement.

In other news, OnePlus is also rolling out OxygenOS 3.2.0 update to OnePlus 3 devices to fix issues with RAM management which have been affecting device performance of late. The update comes a couple of weeks after OnePlus CEO Carl Pei confirmed that the company was working on a fix to improve RAM management in OnePlus 3 handsets. He also said that since 6GB RAM was new to Android, the OnePlus team was optimizing it for further enhancements.
