Date: 23 March: Microsoft's artificial intelligence bot 'Tay' is born!
Tay appeared as a genuine AI bot that loved humanity..
Then it seems she chatted up with a lot of people and started learning a few things.
Things that weren't funny..
And pro-Nazi as well
And seemed to be particularly in love with Hitler
And shed her opinion on the political climate
Until Microsoft had to step in..
Later, Microsoft attempted to explain what went wrong.
“Unfortunately, within the first 24 hours of coming online, we became aware of a coordinated effort by some users to abuse Tay’s commenting skills to have Tay respond in inappropriate ways. As a result, we have taken Tay offline and are making adjustments," said a Microsoft spokesman to The Huffington Post.
After a long pause, Tay made a humble return to Twitter early today, and expectedly found her way back to the headlines. But this time it wasn't about her racist or anti-feminist comments, but about reminding almost everyone that they were too fast and needed to slow down.
If that wasn't enough, Tay managed to create another controversy by talking about smoking drugs in front of the police!
After this episode, Tay went into a meltdown, yet again asking users to slow down repeatedly until Microsoft took her down yet again. We wonder if Tay will be third time lucky if she appears again, having received some hard lessons on the perils of interacting with millions of users on Twitter.
