The next smartphone to sport a 7-day battery life could be an iPhone!

Fuel-cell maker Intelligent Energy claims that it will bring in a battery that will keep smartphones alive for an entire week. If we join a few dots together, that smartphone could very well be an iPhone!

UK-based Intelligent Energy have created a breakthrough fuel cell that is small enough yet powerful enough to fit inside a smartphone and power it for a week on a single charge too. However, it will take another two years for a commercial version to roll out.

Want to wirelessly charge your iPhone? You will have to wait for iPhone 7s

As reported by Bloomberg, a major phone maker is currently funding Intelligent Energy's new technology to the tune of $7.6 million. Back in 2014, the Daily Mail also reported that Intelligent Energy was working with Apple to develop new fuel cell technologies to power future iPads and MacBooks. Intelligent Energy also partnered with an “international electronics company” to purchase patents related to a practical application of fuel cell. As per Digital Trends, that partner company was Apple.

“We believe embedding fuel cell technology into portable devices provides a solution to the current dilemma of battery life and with consumers demanding more and more from their phones, battery innovation has not kept up,” said Julian Hughes from Intelligent Energy.

This smartphone can last ten days thanks to its 10,000 mAh battery

If Intelligent Energy does launch its revolutionary fuel cell battery in the next two years, it would come as no surprise to us if the new battery comes with a flagship iPhone.

To ensure that existing iPhone users do not struggle with the limited battery lives of their gadgets, Apple introduced its new Smart Battery Case in December. The new case fits an iPhone 6 or 6s perfectky and offers up to 25 hours of additional battery life.

Available in Charcoal Grey and White, the case hugs the upper and lower ends of an iPhone 6 or 6s and protrudes slightly in the middle to accommodate the extra battery. The battery case is made of soft touch silicone and is lined with microfiber material to offer a smooth touch and is priced at just £79.

For Android phone users, several other impressive battery packs are currently on offer like PowerPack Digital 7800mAh by PNY, Samsung External Battery Pack (5200mAh), PowerGen 9000mAh External Battery Pack, RAVPower Portable Charger 16000mAh Power Bank and Mophie Powerstation 4000mAh Power Bank.
