Microsoft unveils News Pro iOS app to rival Apple News

Microsoft Garage, the Redmond giant's app-maker, has now unveiled News Pro, a new iOS app that could challenge Apple News or Flipboard in bringing you the latest news and updates on your favourite topics.

You can use News Pro by logging in with your LinkedIn or Facebook app and choose your favourite topics on which you will need regular updates. The app can also take a look at your Facebook posts and likes and offers personalized feeds based on them.

What's more, powered by Bing News, News Pro can also check your work profile and can offer news and updates based on your work, which means that not only will you be able to check and read news while commuting to work, but also when you're at your desk.

"News Pro helps you search for news around your work every day. Fuel your unique interests with over a million topics to choose from. Get informed efficiently by locating the most important and relevant articles each day based off what interests you. Leverage the power of social networks for your daily news,” says the app description.

Microsoft has confirmed that the News Pro app won't be available in Windows and Android devices anytime soon, but it seems that Microsoft wants to the likes of Apple News and Flipboard to create its own space in the news genre.

Apple News offers a range of features like customizable font sizes and easily-readable formats, access to images, galleries, videos, audio and animation and saving articles for future reading. If News Pro can offer similar functionality to iOS users, it may turn out to be a popular iOS app in the long term.
