LG V10 gets Android 6.0 Marshmallow ahead of UK release

LG launched the V10 soon after Apple's latest iPhones got released, thus bringing in an Android champion with a gigantic display that challenged not only the iPhone 6s Plus but also stole the shine from Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.

LG's V10 has probably been among the most anticipated Android phone alongside Samsung's Galaxy S6 thanks to its dual front-facing cameras, a replaceable battery, a second always-on display, a 2TB microSD slot, 4GB RAM, fingerprint sensors and a non-slippery ruggedized back.

LG V10 in-depth review - V is for victory

However, when we reviewed it, we didn't find any flaw except for the fact that it sported Android's 5.1 Lollipop OS even though the latest ones are coming out with Marshmallow, and this prompted us to give the phone a 4.5 rating out of five. But no sooner we published our review, news comes jumping in that the V10 will receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade just in time before it gets released officially in the UK!

So, in our records, the V10 is now a five-star phone!

Apart from its excellent specifications, the V10 comes with many functionalities that manufacturers would only dream about putting in a single phone. It's second always-on display can show the time, data, battery status, app notifications and weather updates even when the main display isn't running. You can also put in your own texts and watch it scroll around for as long as you want.

There are also two front-facing cameras, one of which is a wide-angle one covering 120 degrees. This will be perfect for you if you like taking groupies or panoramic selfies. Another great feature is the ability to take manual videos. There is a video mode called Snap which lets you record short videos between 3s-60s that are instantly shareable. Apart from 4K video recording, V10 has three microphones that deliver sounds that are loud and clear and you can also control the audio scales so the end result is noise free.

Despite running the old Snapdragon 808 processor, V10 doesn't really heat up after a long use and thanks to a 4GB RAM, it performed well in benchmark tests too. An AnTutTu benchmark test gave a score of 67251 which sits just about the G4 with 65507 and below the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge with 67520.

LG V10 hands-on preview

With several new smartphones, including LG's G5, poised for launch at Mobile World Congress next month, LG would surely love to give the V10 a head-start with an early release in the UK. Even though none of the network operators have stepped forward to sell the V10 yet, we're sure we'll get to hear more in the coming days. Do watch this space for more updates on the V10.
