HP is set to launch its first Windows 10 phone come March

Hewlett-Packard is set to launch its first Windows 10 smartphone early next year and will name it the HP Falcon, so revealed a report by Bidness Etc.

HP Falcon will be a phablet-sized device, featuring a 5.8-inch QHD display and premium specifications like a Snapdragon 820 processor, 2GB of RAM, 64GB of in-built storage and 20MP and 12MP cameras. These features will make it more premium and perhaps more expensive than the recently launched Microsoft Lumia 950XL, which was the first phablet based on Windows 10 mobile operating system.

Windows 10 Mobile upgrade won't arrive until the New Year

HP Falcon will get launched at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in March, says the report. If that happens, HP will be crossing swords with the likes of HTC One M10, Samsung Galaxy S7, LG G5 and probably Huawei's Honor 8 phones. However, the size and specifications of the Falcon suggests HP won't have any reason to be afraid.

This isn't the first time that we've heard about HP's upcoming phablet. Earlier this month, GFXBench mentioned it in one of its benchmark listings and details of the were also mentioned here. The report also mentioned that HP Falcon will be the first phone to field Qualcomm's Adreno 530 GPU.

HP Falcon won't be the only phone apart from Microsoft's latest flagships as well as the Lumia 550 to field Windows 10 mobile at the time of its launch. In a recent statement, Microsoft confirmed that Windows 10 Mobile will be rolled out to select Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 phones early next year. These include Lumia 430, Lumia 435, Lumia 532, Lumia 535, Lumia 540, Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 735, Lumia 830 and Lumia 930 phones.

“This November we introduced Windows 10 to phones including brand new features such as Continuum and Universal Windows Apps with the introduction of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL. The Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will begin rolling out early next year to select existing Windows 8 and 8.1 phones," said Microsoft.

We expect Windows 10 Mobile to be rolled out ahead of Mobile World Congress in March where a large number of premium phones will enter the fray sporting the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system.

Even though 6-inch phones are already in vogue and people are getting used to larger devices, a 5.8-inch Windows 10 phone will indeed be a great platform to try out. If you go for it, you will be able to use OneDrive that lets you work on files in any Windows 10 device and save it anywhere at any time for later use. You will also be able to create and edit files like Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and will also be able to make Skype calls. Outlook mail and calendar will also be very helpful if you use Outlook at work and need to sync your phone with it.

Windows 10 Mobile will sport an Action Centre, which will act like a hub of notifications across Windows devices. Using this, you will be able to view, respond to or dismiss notifications either on your phone, tablet or your PC.

The arrival of HP Falcon may also encourage Microsoft to go ahead with its plans of launching its first Surface phone next year. As per available information, Surface Phone will run on Intel's x86 processor and will run Windows programmes like Continuum and a USB Type-C port for quick data transfers. Surface phone will be able to run not only Windows Store apps but also Win32 apps which will make it run like a true personal computer.

Microsoft to unveil the first Surface phone next year!

However, as Windows Central claims, the Surface phone may not be an all-metal phone, so it is possible that we may be looking at a plastic or a composite material body here. Even though a prototype is currently under testing in Surface' labs in Redmond, there have so far been no indications on how the phone will look like.
